My Best way to Germinate a Lettuce seeds Tips and Steps - Hydroponics

I have a little hydroponics setup and this is how I germinate my seedling before transplanting it.

These tips are based on my own experience and own research. There are 2 main factors that the seeds need to be able to germinate: (1) Humidity and (2) Darkness. But there are other things that needs also to consider.

Below are the tips and steps on how to Germinate my lettuce.

1. Put the seedlings 3x deep with the size of the seeds and cover the seed after putting in the hole, by doing this the sunlight will not reach the seeds in the germination period. I use coco coir as a medium.

2. Seedling hates sunlight, so I plant those seeds at around 5PM in the afternoon.

3. After planting those seeds, I sprinkle a water on those seeds, not to wet and not to dry just to give a moisture on those seeds.

4. In the afternoon until morning in the next day there will be a high humidity and no sunlight.
Seeds need humidity and darkness to sprout better.

5. In the next day, morning & afternoon I will again sprinkle a water on those seeds

6. After 2 days, seedling needs sunlight so I put them were the suns goes up (6AM - 12NN)

7. After 3-5 days, seedlings needs nutrients so I water them with diluted (link) SNAP solution

8. After 14 days they are ready to transplant in my Hydroponics setup.

Summary

  • Put the seedlings 3x deep with the size of the seeds
  • Cover the seed after putting in the hole
  • Seedling hates sunlight
  • Seeds need humidity and darkness to sprout better
  • sprinkle a water on those seeds 2x a day
  • After 2 days, seedling needs sunlight
  • After 3-5 days, seedlings needs nutrients
